Officers with the Irving Police Department, in Texas, are trying to find more victims who may have been sexually abused by Averil Cardwell, 69. For a long time, Cardwell resided in the 1500 block of Upton Place, in Irving. On Aug. 23, 2022, he was apprehended at his home in Cedar Hill for Continuous Sex Abuse of A Child. This came after detectives received an outcry from a 21-year-old female victim. This victim told authorities that Cardwell assaulted her when she was between the ages of three and eight.

While looking into the matter regarding the first victim, authorities received another outcry. This prompted them to seek more potential child victims. On October 2, 2022, Cardwell turned himself in at the Dallas County Jail. This was after a second warrant was issued for his arrest. As of now, detectives have identified four victims, going back as far as 1989. Thus, more charges are pending.

Cardwell has bonded out of jail and isn’t in custody at this time.

Detectives believe that there are more victims. They encourage anyone whose child may have come in contact with Cardwell to have those conversations with their children, family members, and friends. If anyone knows a victim or is a victim themselves, they are asked to contact Detective Padrutt at (972) 721-6565 or the Irving Police Department at (972) 273-1010.
