A coroner has confirmed that a body discovered on September 4 is that of missing graduate student, Jelani Day.

Dental records and DNA were used to make the positive identification. A cause of death is unknown while an investigation continues.

The 25 year-old, from Illinois, went missing on August 25 in Bloomington, Illinois. He was an aspiring speech pathologist.

He was last seen on August 24. A few days later, on August 26, his vehicle was found in Peru, Illinois.

When previous searches were conducted, nothing was discovered. When authorities searched again on September 4, they located a body in the Illinois River.

Authorities received many tips that prompted them to search the area again.

“Foul play or not, it is unusual,” an officer with the Bloomington Police Department stated.

An autopsy was done the day following the discovery; however, the results have not been released.
