Ex-NFL star O.J. Simpson has died after battling cancer.

Simpson, who went to trial for the murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in the 90s and was later found not guilty, died on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

It is reported that his children and grandchildren were with him when he passed away on Wednesday evening.

Sources say that O.J. had been fighting prostate cancer in recent years. His health had worsened lately, with him being in hospice care the last couple of months.

Prior to his death, O.J. had seemingly been frail as he had been observed in January, walking with a cane.

Simpson was first introduced as a well-loved American hero on the field, a Heisman winner from USC, and a star with the Buffalo Bills. He also played in many movies and TV shows and even was the face of advertisement for Hertz for several years.

Simpson’s death brings to a close the decades old crime and interest around him. This came after the killings of Nicole and Ron in 1994. After that, the case was named the Trial of the Century when O.J. was tried on national TV. Prior to that, he had been arrested by police after leading authorities on a low speed chase in his Ford Bronco on L.A. freeways. This was one of the most watched, dramatic, and shared occurrences in modern American history.

Once he was captured, Simpson became the prime suspect and was charged in the fatal stabbings of Nicole and Ron. This occurred at her Brentwood residence on June 12, 1994.

Although he was later sued by the Goldmans and the Browns in civil court for the wrongful death of the pair, O.J. was found not guilty of the murder charges.

Although many believed Simpson was still guilty, fans still approached him, asking for pictures and autographs. His family still supported him, as well, including his children.

O.J. Simpson was 76 years old.
