An unidentified, off-duty sheriff’s deputy, from South Gate, California, was part of a car accident where a 12 year-old boy died. His 19 year-old sister was harmed, as well.

The crash occurred at the intersection of San Juan Avenue and Firestone Blvd. at around 4 p.m. on November 3.

At the time of the accident, it is said that the off-duty deputy, who is with the LA County Sheriff’s Department, T-boned the pickup truck carrying Isaiah Suarez Rodriguez and his sister, Alexa.

Authorities suspect that speed may have been a factor in the wreck. A recording of the occurrence depicts a silver vehicle disfigured in the center of the road.

The boy was transported to a medical facility where he passed away after suffering head, abdomen, and brain injuries. His sister’s injuries included a concussion, fractured bones, and cuts.

The siblings’ relatives have raised over $43,000 to fund his burial through a GoFundMe campaign.

The investigation into the matter is on-going.
