A father came home from work and found his 11-year-old daughter strangled to death.

On Saturday, August 10th, Pasadena police received a call at 3:07 p.m. from a man stating that he came home and found his 11-year-old daughter not breathing.

Officers responded and found the little girl, who has been identified as Maria Gonzalez, deceased at the scene.

According to reports, the father, Carmelo Gonzalez, left for work earlier that morning and had been in contact with Maria over the phone. At around 10 a.m., Maria sent a message to her dad saying there was someone knocking at the door.

Carmelo contacted the girl’s aunt and uncle who live in the complex at 1 p.m. to go check on her. The family members say the door was unlocked and open but Maria was nowhere to be found.

When Carmelo returned around 3 p.m., he found his daughter under the bed with wounds similar to strangulation.

The medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was asphyxiation and that the 11-year-old was also sexually assaulted. She also suffered blunt force trauma to the head and neck.

The father and his daughter are from Guatemala and recently moved into the apartment 3 months ago. The mother is still in Guatemala.

No arrests have been made in the case at this time.
