The Royse City Police Department received a report of an armed person on March 25, 2022, at 8:12 a.m., at Royse City High School.

A witness had stated that they saw someone in the parking lot of the school pointing a gun at someone else. Multiple people are said to have been running from the area to the inside of the school.

The school was put on lockdown, and law enforcement arrived at the scene. Officers then saw what seemed to be many airsoft pellets on the ground in the parking lot.  Five students were taken into custody as officers and administrators were able to locate the students involved.

As an investigation was taking place, police determined that the students were taking part in a TikTok “Orbeez Challenge.” This is when students use airsoft or BB guns to shoot pellets at other students.

3 airsoft rifles, one airsoft pistol, and a BB gun were retrieved. The school lockdown was lifted, and classes then resumed.

The students will face consequences from the school and may face criminal charges, as well

The Royse City Police Department is encouraging parents to discuss taking part in such challenges with their children.

The case continues to be investigated.
