Shooting On Westmoreland Claims The Life of Two Young Men; Man Charges Upgraded To Murder

The shooting that took place on the 7400 block of Westmoreland Road Friday has now claimed the life of two young men.

On March 21, Jacory Simpson died from the injuries he sustained during the shooting. Taquan Cooks, 20 is now being held at the Dallas County jail and facing a murder charge.

On March 17, officers responded to the shooting and found Simpson suffering from a gunshot wound inside of a business. He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

While investigating officers learned that 19 year old Donovan Jones had already been taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound and he died from his injuries on March 18.

Simpson got into an argument with Cooks in the parking lot and Cooks allegedly opened fire striking him.

Simpson then returned fire and struck Jones in the parking lot. He then tried to flee the scene but ran into a nearby business.

The investigation still remains ongoing.
