On Thursday, three correctional officers, in Florida, were apprehended after being accused of fatally beating an inmate. Authorities say that they are still looking for another officer.

An investigation took place for about a month. Christopher Rolon, 29, Kirk Walton, 34, and Ronald Connor, 24 were all said to be involved in the occurrence that happened at the Dade Correctional Institution in Miami-Dade County.

They have been charged with second-degree murder, conspiracy, aggravated battery of an elderly adult, and cruelty treatment of a detainee.

On February 14, the inmate, Ronald Gene Ingram, 60, is said to have thrown urine on an officer. Handcuffs were put on him, and he was taken from his cell and placed in a mental health unit. That is where he was beaten, officials say.

Later that day, Ingram was transferred to another correctional facility, 300 miles away. He was discovered deceased in the van during a short stop.

Law enforcement officers have stated that Ingram died because of a punctured lung that bled. The victim also suffered bruises to his face and torso.

The investigation resulted in 10 officers being placed on administrative leave. One officer quit.

“Staff misconduct, abuse, or criminal behavior has no place in Florida’s correctional system. Inmates should not be subject to forms of ‘back alley’ justice which are actions in violation of Florida law,” said the state’s attorney.
