Muhlaysia Bookers was assaulted in an Oakcliff apartment complex Friday after being in a traffic accident. 
The incident happened on the 3500 block of Wilhurt Ave when a transgender woman was involved in a traffic violation turned assault.
During the incident Bookers says she was viciously attacked by Edward Thomas,29 and several other individuals. She also told officers that people were yelling homophobic slurs at her during the attack. 
Three ladies eventually were able to drag Bookers to safety and take her to a nearby hospital.
Several people recorded the assault and posted it to social media sites. 
Thomas was arrested Sunday night and charged with aggravated assault and flagged by Dallas police for a hate crime.
