12-year-old Caleb Anderson is already a sophomore studying Aerospace Engineering at Chattahoochee Technical College in the state of Georgia.
Despite Anderson’s young age, he began to exhibit signs of his brilliance from the time he was in diapers, learning sign language to effectively communicate before he could even began speaking. He leveled up even more by learning to read the U.S. Constitution at the mere age of 2.
At age 3, Caleb could already speak multiple languages, that being, Spanish, Mandarin, French, to top it off with his already native language, English.
He also qualified for MENSA – the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world. According to Face to Face Africa, this society is only open to people who score at the 98th percentile or higher on a supervised, standardized, or other approved intelligence test.
“As we started to interact with other parents, and had other children, then we started to realize how exception this experience was because we had no other frame to reference,” said Caleb’s father, Kobi.
Many news outlets shared that just 2 years after qualifying for MENSA, Caleb’s admittance at the young age of five, made him the youngest African American boy to become member of the society during that period.
The mother of Anderson stated, the decision to enroll her son in college courses stemmed from not only the outstanding performances from lower school through high school, but his desire to push himself to learn more.
‘He said, ‘mom I am bored. This is not challenging,” Caleb’s mother, Claire said. “It’s really not helping me grow in my learning and I think I’m ready for college.”
Although Anderson is young in age, He never let that get in the way or stop him from his college experience being exactly how he envisioned it would be once he had gotten older.
“It was exactly how I expected it to be life if I were 18 or something,” he told news reporters.
While Anderson nay be a boy-genius, his parents also believe that there are many others that are equally gifted as their son, but people must move beyond stereotypes and give those individuals the support and help they need.
“I think people have a negative perspective when it comes to African-American boys,” Claire said. “There are many other Caleb’s out there African American boys like him. From being a teacher – I really believe that. But they do not have the opportunities or the resources.
While Caleb Anderson has already achieved major accomplishments, he also has his sights on furthering his education at Georgia Tech.
