Police have apprehended a man after he fired at officers who were answering to a call about gunshots at an apartment complex in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday evening.
Close to 9:20 p.m., officers were at the scene after being notified that a man was holding and firing a rifle inside of the Trinity Trace Apartments, in the 1700 block of Trinity Height Drive. Authorities then began to look in the area and witnessed the suspect climb on top of a truck and began to shoot at them.
Eventually, Christopher Gibbs, 27, was named as the suspect.
Documents note that police didn’t shoot back at Gibbs but took cover instead. After shooting at police several times, Gibbs tried to flee but was seen at the intersection of Allen Avenue and Arbrook Avenue by another officer who had come to the area.
That officer commanded Gibbs to drop his weapon, and he did. He was then apprehended. When questioning him, it became evident that Gibbs was having a mental health issue, and he was transported to a medical facility to be checked out. Afterwards, he was taken to the Arlington City Jail.
Gibbs faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct.
Although no injuries were reported, authorities said that some of the shots that were fired struck a Uber Eats driver’s vehicle, breaking the window.
