A 1 year old is recovering at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis after being shot by her cousin Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred on Ridgecrest Drive in Holly Springs when a woman left her four year old son at home with her sister while she ran to the store.
According to reports the 4 year old gained access to a .223-caliber AR-15 and shot a 1 year old in the hand.
The sister contacted the mother who came back home and drove her 1 year old to the hospital.
The daughter is undergoing a third surgery Thursday and is expected to regain full use of her hand.
The investigation is ongoing and no criminal charges have been filed.
