A red SUV smashed into a crowd of people during a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Sunday.

Footage of the occurrence on social media reveals the vehicle crashing into barriers and speeding around participants. It then plowed into a group of individuals, including a dance team of girls between 9 and 15 years-old. Pom-poms, shoes, and spilled hot chocolate covered the scene.

5 people were killed, and 40 others were injured.

Officers discharged their weapons, attempting to get the driver to stop. The suspect continued to drive down the street to a stoplight. Police Chief Dan Thompson stated later that the SUV was recovered.

Darrell Brooks, 39, was identified as the person of interest but no criminal charges hve been filed at this time.

The FBI and local police began to look into the matter. Early on, it appeared that the person was trying to get away from an altercation with a knife at another scene when the tragedy at the parade happened.

As of right now, police do not believe that this was an “act of terrorism.”
