Copas was visiting El Paso on June 16  from Kentucky when she called for an Uber. Allegedly the Copas told police she became afraid when she noticed road signs for Juarez, Mexico while they were traveling on U.S. 54  going south.

Allegedly, Copas then grabbed a “silver and brown handgun from her purse” and shot the driver in the head which caused the car to crash into road barriers.

Copas took pictures of the victim’s bloodied and injured body and texted them to her boyfriend before calling for help, court documents report.

The boyfriend who has not been identified drove to the location to pick up Copas, police arrived as he was helping her out of the vehicle, according to officers.

“At some point during the drive, Copas thought she was being taken into Mexico and shot Piedra,” according to a press release. “The investigation does not support that a kidnapping took place or that Piedra was veering from Copas’ destination.”

A local TV station captured video of Copas at the scene of the shooting Friday.

  1. What ever happed to pull over and let me out first or drop me off at the nearest public place before you just shoot. Was that asked and did he refuse?

  2. Whatever happened to proofreading your articles. Read the first sentence again and tell me.if it makes sense. “Authorities have charged Phoebe D. Copas, 48, with murder after 52-year-old Daniel J. Piedra Garcia died from injuries he inflicted by Copas.’

  3. Wow, this is crazy she should’ve asked to be let out, she could have called her boyfriend or texted him and told him she thinks she in danger and shared her location. Nobody was trying to kidnap her she still had her phone and her belongings that would have been the first thing he would’ve done if he wanted to kidnap her. Lock her A** up like for real!!

  4. She racially profiled him, then executes him. Never saw it coming. He’s just trying to earn a living and provide for his family. She decides because she sees signs which are all over the border city, she’s gonna kill the guy. That’s cold blooded ASF.
