In December 2021, ex-NFL defensive end Aldon Smith was charged with felony DUI, in Redwood City, California.

Now, he must serve a year in jail after pleading no contest to the charge.

Immediately, Smith will be on probation for five years in addition to his one-year sentence.

In the December 2021 occurrence, a driver of a truck was injured after Smith slammed his truck into the back of his Recology truck at a stop sign.

Authorities stated that Smith tried to get the driver to accept $1,000 to be transported and not call authorities. On the other hand, the California Highway Patrol officers arrived to the location. They discovered two empty alcohol containers in Smith’s vehicle.

When asked to perform a field sobriety test, Smith wouldn’t comply. However, later, a blood test showed that Smith’s blood-alcohol level was .288. This is over three times the legal limit.

Prior to this, the ex-NFL player who was also on the 49ers’ roster, served time for three DUI offenses, battery, and domestic violence.

He had also had several suspensions enacted by the NFL and didn’t play for four seasons. Then, in 2020, he started 16 games with the Dallas Cowboys before his football career ended.
