AMA Doesn’t Want Sex On Birth Certificates

1kviews

The American Medical Association is receiving opposition after its House of Delegates called for abolishing sex identification on birth certificates.

Furthermore, the advisory committee wants this information to only be used for medical or statistical reasons. Marking someone’s sex would result in marginalization and minoritization, they said.

“Assigning sex using a binary variable and placing it on the public portion of the birth certificate perpetuates a view that it is immutable. Moreover, it fails to recognize the medical spectrum of gender identity,” part of the AMA report read.

Many people on Twitter voiced their opinion on the topic. “Another trusted institution has lost its mind,” commentator Ben Shapiro stated.

Additionally, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley exclaimed, “This is literally the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Stop the madness!”
