Davied Japez McCorry Whatley, 20, has been charged with second-degree murder. This comes after his 8-month-old daughter died after she was left inside of a hot car.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials stated that Whatley was apprehended on Wednesday in relation to the child’s death.

Authorities say that the child was left in the hot vehicle for many hours on Tuesday afternoon, in Snellville, Georgia.

Whatley had gone to a police station, close to 2 p.m., to get his gun back from the property custodian that had been seized in another matter. Officers then found out that he had an outstanding probation charge. This was related to a hit-and-run incident with no insurance.

Whatley was then apprehended and taken to the Gwinnett County Jail. On Tuesday night, he bonded out on that charge.

Detectives say that the entire time that Whatley was in their custody, he never told them that his baby, Nova Whatley-Trejo, was in the car. All communication with police was captured on body camera.

Detectives say that eventually Whatley called the baby’s grandmother, after over seven hours, who went to the vehicle. She discovered the child inside of the suspect’s car and transported her to a medical facility. The baby was then declared deceased.

On Tuesday, at 3 p.m., the temperature in Snellville reached a high of 86 degrees.
