On Tuesday morning, a high school senior, 18, was fatally stabbed during a physical altercation at a high school in Texas. Another student is in police custody at the Bell County Jail and has been charged with murder, authorities say.

Jose Luis Ramirez Jr., 18, was rushed to the hospital after being stabbed in a bathroom at Belton High School, 60 miles north of Austin. He later died from his wounds.

Belton Police Chief Gary Ellis stated that 18-year-old Caysen Tyler Allison, a high school senior, was jailed in relation to the attack and was waiting to be charged. Police say that he fled from the school after the stabbing. The school was placed on lockdown, and Allison was located about 20 minutes later.

His bond was set a $1 million.

On Wednesday, classes were canceled for the 2,500 students who attend the school.

One student remembered Ramirez during a balloon release and prayer service on Tuesday evening.

“He always had the right jokes, and everybody loved him. I don’t think I can name a person that didn’t like him because he always put other people before himself,” said Itty Henry, a senior at the school.

An investigation into the killing is on-going.
