Cash App Experiences Security Breach, Affecting Millions Of Americans

A security breach has impacted 8.2 million former and current Cash App users, Block has announced.

The company, out of San Francisco, documented its findings to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Records show that the breach was performed by an ex-employee.

That person has been accused of downloading stock-related details. The stolen information held data connected to U.S. customers.

“… this employee had regular access to these reports as a part of their past job responsibilities. In this instance, these reports were accessed without permission after their employment ended,” Block wrote.

Some of the customers’ information that was in the reports included names and brokerage account numbers. And even the worth of the brokerage portfolio. Stock trading activity for one day trading and brokerage portfolio holdings were also included.

However, the reports didn’t detail usernames or passwords, social security numbers, dates of birth, or credit card information. Addresses, bank account information, or any other information to identify someone wasn’t a part of the breach either.

Block has stated that they are now attempting to fix the situation. With the help of a forensic firm, they have started an investigation.

Additionally, authorities have gotten involved in the matter.
