A former Tomball teacher from Tomball Intermediate has been arrested and charged with having an ongoing inappropriate relationship with her student.
Marka Lee Bodine,31 was arrested and charged Saturday with continuous sexual abuse of a child, under the age of 14.
According to reports the investigation began on Monday April 12 after a student called police and made a report about an ongoing inappropriate relationship he was having with his former teacher.
During the investigation officers found evidence from social media and text message that lead them to believe the relationship had been going on for 2 or 3 years. They also believe that grooming of the child was involved, which means, getting the person to feel trusted initially.
Bodice was arrested and given a $100,000 bond and has since posted bail.
Continuous sexual abuse of a child is a first degree felony and if convicted Bodine could face a stricter minimum punishment, with no parole.
Tomball ISD released a statement saying, “Tomball ISD is aware of an allegation of an inappropriate relationship isolated between a teacher and a former student who does not currently attend Tomball ISD schools.
Once notified of the allegation, the district immediately began an administrative investigation. The employee was then placed on administrative leave, resigned, and is no longer employed with Tomball ISD.
The Tomball Police Department along with Children’s Protective Services were notified immediately and are conducting independent investigations. Any and all employee misconduct allegations are taken seriously and are investigated thoroughly and promptly.
The safety of our students in Tomball ISD is our number one priority and any substantiated allegations of employee misconduct will not be tolerated. The district will be providing the appropriate social-emotional support to students and staff; we ask that the media and public respect the safety and privacy of the campus community.”
