On Thursday, Craig Vandewege, 40, of Fort Worth, received an automatic life sentence without parole. This was after he was found guilty of capital murder.

In 2016, Vandewege contacted authorities saying someone had burglarized his residence.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered his wife, Shanna, and 3 month-old son Diederik, deceased in their beds. Their throats had been cut.

Officials said that Vandewege attempted to make the home look like an intruder had rummaged through it.

He was apprehended in Colorado as he was headed to Las Vegas a couple of days later. He told police then, that he had murdered his family.

Additionally, a witness spoke in court about hearing Vandewege say that he would have more time if his wife and child were no longer around.

It was noted that he would receive $700,000 from a life insurance policy in the event of their deaths.
