Four men have been charged in the death of The Wire actor, Michael K Williams.
Williams died suddenly in Brooklyn, New York on September 6. He played Omar Little in the HBO series, The Wire. Williams also played Albert “Chalky” White in Boardwalk Empire.
Williams’ death was first ruled an accident by medical examiners. However, after a thorough investigation by the New York City Police Department four suspects were arrested.
Williams overdosed in his apartment from fentanyl-laced heroin. NYPD announced that they arrested members of a drug crew they linked to his death.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan brought the charges forward. The suspects were already under surveillance since before Williams’ overdose last September. A paid informant working for the NYPD and an undercover officer were making purchases just days before his overdose.
Irvin Cartagena, Hector Robles, Luis Cruz and Carlos Macci, were all charged in this case. The charges carry a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of 40 years.
