A former homeless Detroit man, Derrick Walton, is now giving back and assisting those who are without shelter.
Every Monday, those who are in need, can go to Walton’s restaurant and eat at no charge. Walton stated that there was a great need for this type of gesture. This is because he says the homeless often have no one else to turn to and feel like no one cares.
Walton discussed how poor decision-making led him to a life of drug abuse. However, when a manager of a restaurant offered him employment, it changed the course of his life. This was after being turned down by several other employers.
Derrick was so dedicated to his new job that he was able to save money and open his own pizza shop. Volunteers also assist Walton by picking up the homeless people and taking them to the restaurant.
