Gunman Shoots 3 Deputies Outside Houston Bar, Killing One

A deputy is dead and two others injured after being gunned down while working an extra security job in Houston.
The incident happened early Saturday morning around 2:15am outside a bar on the 4400 block of the North Freeway.
Three officers were working an extra security job at a bar inside a shopping center.
Two of the officers were alerted about a possible robbery in the parking lot.
They went outside and were in the middle of arresting the suspect when they were ambushed by an unknown armed suspect.
The suspect had an AR-15 assault rifle and opened fire striking three officers.

All three were transported to an area hospital where two of the officers are expected to survive and one succumbed to his injuries.
The officers were later identified as Deputy Darrell Garrett,28, Deputy Juqaim Barthen,26 and Deputy Kareem Atkins,30.
Atkins who was produced dead leaves behind a 6 month old son, 2 year old daughter and wife.
He’d been on the force since January of 2019.
