A Louisiana woman, who was home with her two children, shot and killed a home intruder after a brief altercation.

51-year-old Robert Rheams, armed with a lug wrench and shovel, forced entry into a home in Hammond Sunday morning before sunrise.

Unbeknownst to Rheams, the homeowner was a mother of two young children who was armed for her protection. A physical altercation between them broke out before the woman grabbed her gun and shot him.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Rheams, who committed a carjacking just hours prior, was on parole after serving 20 years for armed robbery.

Authorities say the woman was exercising her 2nd amendment right and was protecting her children. No arrests have been made in the case.
