Erica Thompson was put in jail on Tuesday for a violation of probation for a perjury charge. She posted on social media that the staff at the jail in Gainesville, Texas, ignored her labor pains.
Jail officials are required to check on pregnant inmates often.
When the staff realized that the baby really was coming, they called paramedics.
Before paramedics could get to the jail, the baby was delivered. After arriving at the hospital, she was told there was nothing they could do to save the premature baby.
They let her hold the baby until it died.
“They didn’t try to put her in an incubator or anything. My baby died in my arms still moving, heart pumping…My baby could have been saved, ” Thompson said.
A protest was held outside the jail on Wednesday as people want justice for Thompson because protesters say she didn’t receive adequate medical care.
