A man was found dead in a Texas jail cell hours after being arrested Thursday afternoon.
According to reports Frank Cantu Rivera,44 was arrested that morning for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon warrant.
Authorities say they attempted to take Rivera to the hospital for evaluation after being arrested but he refused treatment.
He was then transported to Harlingen City Jail booked in and placed in a cell.
Around 2:45pm a jailer found Rivera inside his cell unresponsive.
Staff immediately attempted to revive Rivera but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the jail.
The Texas Rangers have stepped in and are investigating the case.
