Christina Lopez, a 42 year-old from Madera, California, received almost $5 million when her son was shot and killed by police.
A month-long investigation had taken place after a fatal shooting took place in July. The aim was to locate gang members who were involved. As a result, Lopez and 13 other people were arrested.
In April, she had gotten $4.9 million from the city in the death of her 16 year-old son, Isiah Murrietta-Golding. He ran away when officers tried to detain him, in 2017, and was shot and killed.
She is accused of using that money to buy guns for her 14 year-old son to give to his fellow gang members.
Lopez is charged with 22 counts of gun trafficking charges including conspiracy to provide firearms to a minor for the benefit of street gangs. Other charges include child endangerment and conspiracy to provide a firearm to a gang member.
