A mother, in Las Vegas, attempted to kill her newborn baby as they were being transported to a hospital, police say.
Ashley Hollingsworth, 23, has been charged with attempted murder and child abuse.
On Sunday, police arrived to the hospital after the baby had come to the emergency room.
The child’s father had stated that the baby had been born Saturday night. As he drove them to the hospital, Hollingsworth is said to have smothered the newborn with a blanket.
Documents state that Hollingsworth said multiple strange things to relatives. One of which was that her baby was evil. Additionally, she requested that someone strike her in the face, and when they didn’t, she hit herself.
When she was 19-years-old, Hollingsworth was diagnosed with a medical condition, she told police. However, she hadn’t taken her medicine since she had become pregnant.
Hollingsworth is being detained at the Clark County Detention Center. She had no bond and is set to appear in court on Monday.
