NMSU Player Who Shot and Killed a Man Who Was Attacking Him Has Been Suspended From Team

A New Mexico State University basketball star has been suspended after he killed a man in self-defense during a setup.

According to reports, NMSU student and basketball player Mike Peake was lured by a 17-year-old girl while away at an NMSU vs. UNM game in November.

What Peake believed to be a sexual encounter turned out to be a set-up. Peake was ambushed by three men and attacked with a baseball bat and also fired at while running away.

During the altercation, Peake shot back and ended up striking one of the men, killing him.

As a result of the incident, the teams never competed that week and the girl who lured Peake to the room was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and conspiracy.

One of the men who attacked Peake was also arrested and charged with aggravated battery, tampering with evidence, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

NMSU’s athletic director Mario Moccia and coach Greg Heiar announced the suspension on Monday.
