Officers Charged With Manslaughter After Shooting Man 15 Times Although He Complied

This month, officers that killed a man in Oklahoma were charged with manslaughter.

The December 5, 2021, killing has resulted in the officers losing their jobs and waiting to see if they will be incarcerated for their actions.

29-year-old Quadry Sanders was seen being shot by officers 15 times, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

“Watching my son on the ground, for a while, it seemed like forever, maybe 15 or 20 minutes of suffering. I wish he hadn’t suffered that much as a father,” said his dad, 51-year-old Reginald Sanders.

Documents indicate that on the night of the incident, authorities received a call regarding Quadry Sanders being inside of a residence where he was banned. This was because of a protective order. The caller had stated that Sanders had been waving a gun around.

When officers arrived on the scene, they encountered Quadry Sanders twice. The second time, the officers told Sanders to show his hands which he did. His hands were clearly in the air with only a baseball cap in them. Sanders then turned back to go into the home as seen on body cam footage.

Officers Hinkle and Ronan walked up behind Sanders. Sanders still had both hands in the air when Hinkle shot at Sanders four times. Visibly, Sanders was hit by a bullet, and Hinkle continued to tell him to show his hands and stop reaching. After Sanders sat up from his back, with his hands over his head, Hinkle fired his weapon seven more times. At the same time, Ronan shot his weapon four times.

On January 7, Officers Nathan Ronan and Robert Hinkle were fired after an internal investigation.

Sources say that Officer Ronan had also killed another man, 24-year-old Zonterious Johnson, in January 2021.

Although Reginald Sanders said that he would have liked a murder charge, he is satisfied that criminal charges were filed in his son’s death.

He added that he will always remember Quadry for making others laugh, and his love for music. He even performed under the stage name of “Mercoe.”

Quadry Sanders’ family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit. He leaves behind seven children, ages 2 to 11.

The officers are set to appear in court again on August 1.
