Paris ISD Changes Dress Code To Require Mask

3.1kviews

Paris ISD has found a loophole in Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s no mask mandate and added face mask to their dress code.
With school starting Thursday and about 4,000 students, Paris ISD announced Tuesday that they would require mask in their dress code.
“The district noted that Abbott’s executive order last month did not suspend a chapter in the Texas Education Code that gives school districts power to oversee health and safety measures, thus allowing Paris ISD officials to elect to “amend its dress code consistent with its statutory authority.”
In the emergency school board meeting held Tuesday they voted 5 to 1 in favor of the measure, which will be revisited at the monthly trustee meetings and has the potential to be changed at a later date.
Paris ISD seems to be the first district in the state to use its authority to set a dress code requiring students and employees to wear masks.
They are urging other districts to do the same.
