Queen Elizabeth II passed away Thursday afternoon at the age of 96.
According to reports, the queen passed away peacefully at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Her four children, including her son Charles who is now King, were by her side, sharing her last moments alive together.
73-year-old Charles will be King Charles III if he chooses to keep his name as monarch. He and his wife, Camilla, are expected to stay at the castle overnight before traveling to London on Friday.
With 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II was Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.
