On Wednesday, Antonio “AJ” Armstrong Jr., the son of an ex-NFL player, was convicted of capital murder in the killing of his parents when he was 16 years old.

Armstrong Jr. was given a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 40 years.

In 2016, Armstrong Jr. was charged with the killings of Antonio and Dawn Armstrong. Prosecutors had stated that Armstrong fatally shot his parents at their Bellaire townhouse. Dawn Armstrong was declared deceased at the location and Antonio Armstrong Sr. was declared deceased at a hospital after suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Two mistrials had occured prior to this conviction because a jury couldn’t decide on a verdict.

At first, Armstrong had stated that an intruder had broken into their residence, but authorities couldn’t find any evidence of that.

As his third trial took place, it was noted that blood specks had been on Armstrong’s shirt when he was apprehended. Additionally, two drops of blood belonging to Antonio Armstrong Sr. were discovered on the back of a nametag sticker the authorities had put on A.J.’s shirt when he was first arrested.

Forensic officials had first said that no DNA evidence was said to have been found.

Reports indicate that Armstrong filed a lawsuit against the City of Houston because of the blood specks component of the matter.
