An Austrian supermarket had to be evacuated after the store manager spotted a spider with the ability to cause permanent erections.
The Penny shop in Krems an der Donau remains closed since Tuesday over fears of the highly venomous spider.
Emergency services were contacted and informed that the spider was still at large, and maybe a highly venomous Brazilian Wandering Spider.
The Brazilian Wandering Spider is one of the world’s most venomous spiders, and bites can be fatal after causing hypothermia, blurred vision, convulsions, and, in some cases, erections. The spider’s venom is being studied for use in erectile dysfunction treatment.
An exterminator was called and the store’s banana crates have been sealed, the shop will likely stay closed until next week.
A Rewe retail group spokesperson said that ‘comprehensive cleaning and disinfection measures’ are now underway to prepare the store for reopening.
“Despite an extensive search, no spiders have been found to date.” said authorities.
However, the reported size and coloring of the spider led authorities to believe it was a Brazilian Wandering Spider.
