Supreme Court Decides That Bill Cosby’s Overturned Conviction Will Stand

Pennsylvania’s highest court released Bill Cosby, 84, from prison. Now, the Supreme Court has decided to keep that decision in place.

Prosecutors wanted the high court to hear the case and reinstate the conviction of Cosby. The court denied to hear their case.

Last year, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court threw Cosby’s conviction out. They stated that the prosecutor who first brought the case forth was bound by his predecessor’s agreement not to indict Cosby.

The Supreme Court did not provide an explanation for their decision. Cosby’s case was just one of many that they declined to hear on Monday.

In 2018, Cosby was found guilty of drugging and molesting Temple University worker Andrea Constand in 2004. He was initially sentenced to three to ten years in prison. But, in 2021, his conviction was overturned.

Cosby, who grew up in public housing in Philadelphia, is a trailblazer for many African-Americans in the entertainment industry. He is reported to have made $400 million in his fifty-year career.

Cosby has mostly been known for his “clean comedy and homespun, wisdom-fueled, popular t.v. shows, books, and standup acts.”
