Update: The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Juan Vincente Zavala Lopez. He has been charged with Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault in the homicide on Scyene, and four counts of Aggravated Assault Peace Officer. He was taken to the Dallas County Jail.

Dallas police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and an officer injured Thursday afternoon.

Around 1:25 p.m. officers responded to a shooting call on the 4800 block of Scyene. Upon arriving they learned a man had been shot and saw the suspect shooting into the vehicle.

The suspect exchanged gunshots with officers before fleeing the scene and leading police on a small chase.

Officers chased the suspect to the 4700 block of Second Ave where the suspect opened fire again, this time striking an officer in his vest. They returned fire but the suspect was able to get away.

The officer was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The male shooting victim died from his injuries.

During the investigation officers determined that the shooting was not random and the suspect and victim knew each other.

This shooting investigation remains ongoing.
