Woman Found Shot To Death Inside Car, 2 Year Old Girl Found Unharmed In Backseat

A 24 year old woman was found shot to death inside a car early Sunday morning in Joliet, Illinois. Officers say they also found a 2 year old girl in the backseat unharmed.

Officers say they received a call regarding a parked car in an alley near the 1200 block of Clement Street around 12:21 a.m.

When they arrived they discovered a 24 year old woman with multiple gunshots deceased inside the car. They also found a 2 year old little girl in the backseat unharmed.

Emergency crews transported the little girl to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center for precautionary evaluations. She was then released to family members.

Police have no suspect(s at this time and are working to identify one. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Will County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Maya A. Smith.
