Latonya Eason, of Senatobia, Mississippi, said that officers detained her 10-year-old son and transported him to jail for public urination.

Last Thursday, Eason had gone by a lawyer’s office, and after 10 minutes of being there, an officer stopped the meeting. He had seen Eason’s 10-year-old, Quantavious Eason, urinating behind her vehicle.

The mother stated that her son told her that there wasn’t a bathroom inside, so he had no other choice.

Eason had thought that the officer was going to simply give her son a warning. However, when other officers arrived on the scene, things got worse.

“Your son gotta get out the car. He gotta be arrested because he can’t do that,” another officer approached her and stated.

Quantavious said that he cried a little when he was placed in a police truck. He added that the thought of being arrested scared him. He was transported to jail and held in a cell.

“I’m just speechless right now because for one, I can’t believe it happened. Why would you arrest a 10-year-old kid?” The mother questioned.

She says that they charged her son with child in need of services then let him go.

“They could have really traumatized my baby…,” Eason said.

The police chief noted that the child being apprehended was a mistake.

“Under these circumstances, it was an error in judgement for us to transport the child to the police station since the mother was present at the time as a reasonable alternative,” he stated.

The police chief also said that Quantavious wasn’t handcuffed during the incident.
