19 Year Old Suspect Arrested And Charged With Capital Murder In The Death of Deputy Kareem Atkins

A man was arrested and taken into custody in connection with the October shooting that killed one Harris County officer and injured two others.

Police arrested Eddie Alberto Miller,19, of Richmond in Fort Bend County Sunday. He is charged with capital murder for the shooting death of Deputy Constable Kareem Atkins. Miller also faces attempted capital murder and aggravated assault charges in connection with the shootings of deputies Darryl Garrett and Jaqaim Barthen. His bond was denied.

The officers were working an off duty security job on October 16. As they were detaining a suspect in another crime they were ambushed by Miller with an AR-15 rifle.

Atkins was fatally shot, Garrett was shot in the back and Barthen was shot in the foot. Garrett remains in ICU and Barthen was later released from the hospital.
