300 People Deceased After Earthquake In Haiti

At least 304 people have died after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the country of Haiti Saturday morning. Additionally, 1,800 people have been wounded.

The government has now declared a state of emergency in the Western department, Southern department, Nippes, and Grand’Anse.

The patient intake at a hospital has been so great, tents have been set up in its courtyard.

Damage to homes, roads, and buildings were seen.

Haiti is located in the cone of Tropical Storm Grace. Tropical storm-forces and heavy rains are expected this upcoming week. Floods and mudslides could be the result.

“Resources have been mobilized since this morning to provide aid and assistance to the victims of this devastating earthquake,” stated Henry, the Prime Minister.

President Biden released a statement saying, “We send our deepest condolences to all those who lost a loved one or saw their homes or businesses destroyed.”

He also offered help from the US.
