A student fatally shot another student during lunch at a middle school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were both 13 years old.
It was said that the deceased boy was actually attempting to break up a fight between two others.
“Sadly, a child lost his life because a classmate brought a gun to school. The boy who lost his life is also a hero,” said Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina.
The school went on lockdown as students took cover under desks.
Six gunshots were heard in total, and the suspect was apprehended by an officer.
Grief counselors will be at the school all week with classes resuming on Tuesday.
Additional presence from police is expected.
