Sydnei Dunn, 24, and Marquis Colvin, 25, were apprehended on murder charges after their 4-week-old baby died of alcohol poisoning.

The two were arrested in April, on the day that the child died, by Paulding County, Georgia sheriff deputies.

Doctors stated that the alcohol found in the baby’s system was over four times the legal limit for adults.

Authorities say that after the parents took the child to a children’s health care facility in Atlanta, workers contacted them. The child was unresponsive, and the parents’ explanation hadn’t made sense.

At first, Dunn told police that she had drunk a great amount of alcohol the day prior to the child’s death. She added that the baby must have gotten alcohol poisoning during breastfeeding.

Later, she said that the child’s father had put alcohol in the baby’s bottle, documents note.

Dunn has been charged with malice murder, second-degree murder, first-degree cruelty to children, and reckless conduct. Colvin was charged with the same offenses. Additionally, he faces a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and parole violation.

Both are in custody without bond.
