Balenciaga has launched a new collection of shoes that are named the Paris Sneakers. This new collection of distressed shoes costs close to $2,000.
The shoes are “extremely worn, marked up, and dirtied,” stated Balenciaga.
The most expensive shoes in the collection is an $1,850 limited edition of women’s high-tops. They have “destroyed cotton and rubber” and “rippings all over the fabric.” Dark smudges and marks can be seen on the rubber soles, and the brand name is written in what looks like Sharpie marker. The color of the shoes are black and white, and there will only be 100 of these shoes available for purchase.
Their collection also offers a pair of light-distressed high-tops that are red, black, and white for $625. These don’t have slashes in the fabric, and the scuff marks aren’t as noticeable.
Also, customers can buy mules in red, black, and white. They have slight smudges on the soles and costs about $495.
The shoes have to be pre-ordered, and their worn out look indicates that they can last a lifetime, Balenciaga said.
Many online have expressed their sentiments about the new collection. “Balenciaga is now selling beat-up converse for $1,850,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Balenciaga gotta be a social experiment,” another user wrote.
