64-year-old Themis Matsoukas, a longtime and award-winning Penn State professor, is said to have performed sexual acts with his dog. The acts were recorded on a state forest trail camera.
On Tuesday, Matsoukas, was charged after being captured with his pants down, committing the acts with his dog, close to restrooms at Rothrock State Forest in Pennsylvania.
Matsoukas is now on leave from the institution and was named because of a North Face backpack he had been transporting in April and in May.
Documents indicate that Matsoukas attempted to record himself performing the sexual acts via an electronic tablet.
Earlier this month, officials searched his residence as Matsoukas went into a “panic,” stating, “I’m done. I’m dead.” Additionally, he pleaded with officers to shoot him, and said, “I do it to blow off steam.”
During the search, a backpack and a ski mask, that were seen on camera in April, were found. What’s more, the dog in the residence matched the dog in the recording.
Matsoukas has been a professor of chemical engineering since 1991 and had earned three teaching awards since then.
He has been charged with open lewdness, indecent exposure, and sexual intercourse with an animal. He also faces charges of cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct.
Authorities believe that Matsoukas has been engaged in these behaviors in the forest since 2014.
