A Dallas grand jury indicted a 29-year-old man on 15 felonies from one single drag race.

Charles Spead faces seven counts of racing on a highway, causing bodily injury, seven counts of an accident involving an injury, and one charge of drug possession.

Spead was the driver of a 2019 Ford Fusion that got into a drag race with an unknown driver of a black sedan on Jan 8, 2022. Both drivers were racing on a residential street with a speed-limit of 30 mph at 7:45 in the evening.

While racing, and hitting high speeds, both vehicles overran an Infinity SUV that was trying to make a left turn. The driver of the black sedan passed the Infinity SUV on the right, while Spead attempted to pass on the left, but struck the SUV instead.

In the SUV was a family of seven; two adults, three teenagers, a nine-year-old, and a six-year-old. They were all sent to the hospital for treatment of their injuries and have since recovered.

Spead faces two charges for each victim. The charge of racing on a highway carries a possible prison term of 20 years for each offense. Leaving the scene of an accident carries a potential 10-year charge.
