Ex-Jail Guards Receive Sentence After Punishing Inmates By Playing “Baby Shark” Repeatedly

Two ex-Oklahoma County jail officers, Gregory Cornell Butler Jr., 24, and Christian Miles, 23, were punished on Thursday.  This was for cruelty offenses related to reprimanding inmates by playing “Baby Shark” constantly.

The former officers pleaded no contest to misdemeanor cruelty offenses and will serve two years on probation.

The two must also pay the victims $300, perform 40 hours of community service, and pay a $200 fine. In addition to that, they will never be able to work in law enforcement again.

Reports indicate that an investigation had begun after it was discovered that handcuffed inmates were made to stand for long periods of time as they were chained to a wall. This occurred as the inmates were being disciplined in 2019.

As they were being punished, the former jail guards played “Baby Shark” non-stop and very loudly, even causing vibrations in the wall.

If there are no more offenses committed by the former officers, their records will be wiped clean.
