During Andrew Serrano’s funeral in 2019, his corpse fell out of the casket as it was being put under the ground.
Now, his family has filed a lawsuit against Perez Funeral Home. Also being sued is the Bellevue Cemetery, owned by the city of Lawrence in Massachusetts, and the city.
As Serrano was being lowered into his grave, a strap on a device broke. As his body fell out, fluid began to spill out. This all occurred in front of his relatives.
The family members were said to have been “hysterical and distraught.” Some of them even attempted to jump into the grave to get his fallen body.
Serrano’s relatives have said the negligent actions caused emotional distress. They are asking for $50,000 in damages.
