Former Police Officer Convicted In Black Woman’s Violent Arrest After She Called Them For Help
A Florida police officer who shoved a Black woman after she called for help was convicted on battery and official misconduct charges Thursday.
Former Miami-Dade Police Officer Alejandro Giraldo was arrested in May 2019 after he lied on arrest and incident reports.
Dyma Loving called Miami-Dade County police on March 5, 2019 to report a neighbor who pointed a shotgun at her and a friend and threatened to kill them.
The neighbor was also allegedly saying sexist and racist slurs to the women.
When Officer Giraldo was on the scene, Loving was raising her voice and urging him to arrest the neighbor. Police body camera footage then shows Giraldo charging at Loving and pulling her down to the ground by her neck.
At one point, Giraldo said Loving “needed to be Baker Acted.” Florida’s Baker Act authorizes involuntary mental evaluation of a person who appears to be a harm to themselves or someone else.
Loving was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The charges were later dropped. The police did not arrest the neighbor until days later, after the video was released.
Giraldo wrote in his report that Loving did not follow his commands and was “causing a scene.”
Three other officers who responded to the scene made statements concluding that Loving was no threat in any way.
Loving filed a civil rights lawsuit against the Miami-Dade Police Department, Giraldo and another police officer.
Giraldo faces up to five years in prison for the official misconduct charge which is a third-degree felony.
I so remember this 🤔 He automatically thought the angry black woman was the problem. When she was the who called about a problem. They didn’t arrest the real problem she called about originally until few days later whew now thats sad. I am happy she followed through with lawsuit and got that azz. If you do right the first time then you don’t have worry about having issues of being convicted. He had a job to do Serv and Protect!!!!!!!!!!
