A well-known DJ has died after falling from a high-rise building in downtown Houston.
On July 4, around 5 a.m., the incident occurred at Camden Apartments on Austin St. Darian Lewis, the 23-year-old dj known as DJ DBaby, fell from a 13th-floor balcony and landed on a pool deck located on the 9th floor. Emergency crews rushed her to a medical facility. On Wednesday, July 13, she died from her injuries.
“She did things people that are 56 my age haven’t done,” stated her father, Darrin Lewis.
Many different versions of how Lewis fell have been circulating on social media. Some people have even blamed her girlfriend who was at the location during that time.
However, her girlfriend took to Facebook and said that she is saddened and wasn’t involved in the matter. She added that DJ DBaby had been drinking, had gotten on top of furniture, lost her balance, and fell. She says that it happened so quickly that she didn’t get a chance to get to her.
Relatives say that they aren’t going to assume anything. They’d rather let authorities do their job.
Houston police commented that the incident appears to be an unfortunate accident.
Meanwhile, the family would like people to think about the life that DJ DBaby lived.
“She was that life for you guys. So, now, it’s everyone else’s turn to be that life for us. We can watch those videos and those moments we didn’t see. We can see it and smile and reminiscence on how great of a person she was,” said her brother, Chase Taylor.
Authorities say that they are still investigating the matter and questioning witnesses.
